Throughout it's distinguished history, the Land of Broken Dreams has been non-corporate. The Staff here wants to run a site that its members enjoy visiting. Even the best of social networking sites place advertisements in order to pay for their server costs and, perhaps, turn a profit. We have chosen Google Ads as our corporate advertiser in an effort to pay for the server costs; we have never turned a profit. However, note that every administrator on this site receives no pay and volunteers their time for the community. Our server costs are graciously paid for out-of-pocket by our Senior Administrators. You have taken advantage of this generosity by logging into LoBD. Our PHP coders could use their talents elsewhere, but, instead, choose to contribute to LoBD for no pay. It is for these reasons that we have decided to set up a voluntary donation service.
We are offering a number of payment plans in order to remain as flexible as possible to whomever wishes to donate. Our monthly plans range from our "Coffee Subscription" -- a $1.00 donation a month -- to our "Super Sexy" subscription -- a whopping $20.00 a month. Additionally, you may make a one-time donation if your financial situation is not stable enough to handle a monthly subscription. All of our subscriptions are processed through PayPal, a secure server. You do not have to worry about your funds being mishandled.
In exchange for your donation, you will receive special designation on your profile as our thanks to you -- a number of stars depending on how much you've donated. Additionally, any donations above $5/month will receive access to Journal Customization. Members who are willing to make generous donations can certainly negotiate their privileges on the site. The Staff will agree to ideas they see as fair and possible. (For example, a monthly subscriber may ask for an @landofbrokendreams.com e-mail address or a few MB of webspace on our server.)
It is through our denizens that LoBD is possible; without you, there would be no community. We appreciate your patronage, and we hope that you enjoy the community that you visit. If you enjoy the site, and can afford to spare a, few dollars, please make a donation. All funds will be used to pay for server costs, fund contest prizes, provide compensation to a constantly overworked, volunteer Staff, or be somehow directly funneled back into the LoBD community. No money will ever be wasted; every penny has its place. Do your part to keep your community alive -- donate today.

Even More Important: Any donations processed via PayPal and received by LoBD cannot be refunded under any circumstances. Please make sure that you can afford to donate before you do so. It is more important that you can continue to eat and pay rent than it is for us to have your $20 subscription.
